Charles' story

Fisher is a popular name, so although we think this is most likely to be the identity of this man, it could be wrong. Please get in touch if you have more information about  this hero. The bell has C Fisher listed as a Private.

Rifleman Charles Fisher served in the First Battalion, Rifle Brigade. During the first four months of 1916 the 1st Battalion was fighting on the Somme.  From 30 March until 2 May it was alternatively in the line or reserve trenches in the area of Pommier (some 12 miles south-west of Arras).  It might have been during this time that Rfm Fisher was wounded and subsequently died of his wounds on 19 April.

Thanks to Barry Langridge for his research on the men of the Rifle Brigade.
