James Henry's story

Thanks to Katy Whiting for this information:
James Henry Whiting worked as a gas stoker and when WWI broke out he joined up with the Middlesex Regiment 18th Battalion. He died aged 43 on 25/06/1918 and from what I can make out on his records, which aren’t very clear, his was killed by a shell burst.
He was married at the time of his death and his wife was called Margaret. They had eight children altogether. My grandfather was one of his sons and was about two years old when his father died, so obviously never knew him and never spoke about him. My father who was James’s grandson never knew anything about him either until I started looking into my family tree.
James Henry Whiting was born in Ireland to Henrietta Whiting (nee Clarke) and  James Whiting. His father was over there with the R H A as a driver.
