William 's story
Private W Baker on the F bell could be Rifleman William Douglas Baker who served with the Essex Regiment and then the Rifle Brigade. He lived in Hatherley Gardens, East Ham, and was killed in action in Belgium on 25 August 1917, aged 20.
However it’s possible it could be someone else – Private William Charles Baker who lived with his wife in Bow and enlisted in Stratford. He served with the Notts & Derby Regiment, and was killed in action in France & Flanders on 28 September 1918, aged 40.
