Frank Edward's story
Enlisted: May 1916, 16th Battalion, Rifle Brigade.
Killed in Action on 1 August 1917. Between 26 July and 6 August the Battalion was in trenches in the area of Essars, a few miles north east of Bethune, in northern France. No major attacks were undertaken during August but the Battalion still sustained four men killed and seven wounded, probably as a result of shell fire.
Thanks to Barry Langridge for his research on the men of the Rifle Brigade.
