John's story

The Tabernacle Messenger (church magazine) of October 1914 reported that J Hillman had enlisted in the 9th Queen’s Royal Lancers, 2nd Cavalry Brigade, British Expeditionary Force.

In January 1915 it listed him as one of the servicemen who received a parcel for Christmas 1914.

In June 1915 it reported that  Corporal John Hillman of  9th Lancers, and part of the BEF, hand been had been killed in action at Mons.
